Joining a camera club
Camera Clubs
Interested in photography but don’t know where to start?
Take a look at our list of camera clubs and see if there is one near you.
Attending a camera club can give you a great insight into the world of photography, not only giving you practical advice but also you can get expert help on either a weekly or monthly basis. Other benefits are that you get to know likeminded individuals who will probably be willing to go out with you to take photographs; this will be particularly useful either at night when you could feel vulnerable especially with a set of nice, shiny and expensive equipment round your neck.
Other areas of interest are Photoshop and photo manipulation. Most people attending will be using digital so don’t panic if you are only just beginning to learn about photography.
When you start up photography equipment will be an important topic. A camera club will give you a good starting point to talk to people who have needed the same questions answered. There is nothing worse than trying to obtain information from the Saturday staff in the local camera shop – trust me I’ve been there!
When you start developing your photography passion you will have many hurdles to overcome. Learning techniques, making/ running a website, learning light and flash, computer skills and photo manipulation, general business and running photography sales including how to price up your product/time and this is just the start!
Camera Club Competitions
Camera clubs regularly host competitions. This will not only get you out and about, but you will inevitably be exposed to photographs that are much better than yours. This gives you the chance to see how other people interpret the same theme you are set to photograph, and will do nothing but lift your enthusiasm and learn from previous mistakes.
Your local camera club will also be a great source of information about local or national photographic events and seminars. Attending one of these will be a fantastic injection of enthusiasm and knowledge, steering you in the right direction for success, listening to experienced pro’s, hearing their success stories and sharing their mistakes.
Nearly all camera clubs will often have special guests talking at their meetings. This gives you the opportunity to talk directly to pro photographers and get your questions answered by the best.
A camera club will not only give you the advice of photography but also the information about running a photography business, All clubs will have at least one established professional or semi pro who can give you direction and advice.
Once established as a serving camera club member you will probably have access for you to advertise or at least have a link on the website of the camera club. This will not only prove valuable in regards of business but will also add that air or professionalism and credibility to your business.
If you do not see your local camera club listed either let them know or even list them yourself for free!
