Finding Ways to Relax

Models tend to live high-stress lives. They have almost no real way to escape that stress as they either deal with their high-strung friends who are afraid of losing their careers at any moment and the regular populace won't let them relax as regular people. They exacerbate the situation by maintaining a dietary razor's edge between total deprivation and just enough to keep them active, but doesn't quite fuel their highly active lifestyle.

The higher stress levels not only create health issues; the model is more likely to get sick, suffer from headaches, and need to deal with other health issues. Also, it will make following instructions harder as well as make social interactions in general harder as the model is going to have less patience with other people. There are physical signs of stress; the model finds that maintaining their appearance becomes harder, and in an occupation where appearance is everything, that's a very bad thing. They need to find a way to relax.

Yoga and other forms of meditation are obviously on the list. They allow a person to stop thinking for a little while, and to concentrate on...nothing. Blood pressure goes down, which is the point, and they are able to basically reboot mentally; the relaxation allows them to step back and look at their overall situation a little more objectively. This is not a bad deal.

Physical and mental pursuits are also a good idea, especially if they involve the personal completely. Although they appear different from the outside, they both nonetheless allow the model to get away from the situation that they are currently involved in, providing a way for the model to take a vacation of sorts.

Hobbies are also a great way to obtain a short respite from the current situation, or at least keep the model busy. Obviously there is a theme here; the idea is to find something that gets the model out of their current mindset and allows a way for them to remove themselves from the situation, at least mentally and concentrate on something else, however relatively meaningless it may in actuality be. Keeping in a situation that continually grinds you down will eventually grind you away to nothing; you need a way to refresh yourself. Finding that way to refresh can thus be extremely important, even a matter of life and death to some degree.

At the same time, you must let the hobby find you, not you find the hobby; this makes it sort of like finding a new best friend. Hobbies are communities as well as activities; one can find help, rivalries, and even friends within that community based on their talents regarding the hobby and not their background outside of that community. That support is great for someone in a high-stress job; it allows them to truly refresh themselves. That refreshment is what a model is looking for; a chance to rebuild their defenses and obtain a little bit more of themselves, and a chance to gird for yet another battle on the set. And that little bit makes sure that you don't go totally insane.
