How to find a good, reputable modelling agency
In this day and age with internet access, and sites such as Facebook, for potential models to be taken in by so called modelling agencies and scouts.
However if you take your time, and follow our guide to finding reputable agencies and scout’s then you should end up with the right agency for you.
Firstly you need to find an agency.
The obvious place to start is either the internet or phonebook, but how do you know which agency is good or not?
Through use of internet and adverts contact companies who you know use models and ask which agency they use. Likewise contact reputable photographers who will also be able to give you the details of reputable agencies.
Once you have found an agency you would like to work with, what can you expect to happen next?
One of the most popular scams is to charge you a fee for just signing you onto their books. No reputable agency will do this, so the first rule is; if you are asked for money upfront, walk away.
Reputable agencies’ make no money from you until you are in work, so if you find that the agency wants’ to charge you for casting fee’s, training day’s or a professional portfolio – they are almost certainly a scam.
Ask to speak with other models so you can find out about the agency.
Check out the agencies’ website. Do they show all their contact details? Make a point of telephoning the number given on the website to check it connects with the agency.
In short here are four main points to adhere to;
- Do not pay money upfront – reputable agencies will only take money from you in the form of commission once you start working [There may be a small fee but nothing more than covering costs]
- If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is – good, reputable agencies will be realistic with the amount of work you are likely to get.
- Speak to as many people as you can, such as models and photographers to gain information about the agency.
- Play it safe. Always ensure someone knows where you are, and who you are with.
