How to tell if a photographer is reputable

How to tell if a photographer is reputable?
The majority of photographers are genuine people with a genuine passion, however there are some individuals out there who do nothing but exploit in the name of money.
Follow our guidelines and you will safely find yourself and reputable photographer.
- Check out the photographer’s website if they have one – are the contact details genuine?
- Many photographer’s claim to be members of various organisations – check out the authenticity of this by contacting the said organisation
- Does the photographer have a work address? Be wary if you are asked to meet with the photographer at an address other than his or her work address.
- If they have a ‘free ‘e-mail address be wary. Most genuine photographers will have an e-mail address linked in to their website.
- Genuine photographers will be honest with you about their experience, and their price should reflect this – however remember that all photographers have to start somewhere so if the advice given is not correct it doesn’t necessarily mean they are fraudulent. Use your own judgement.
- It is very easy in this day and age with use of computers to pass of other photographs as your own. Take notice of the photographer’s style and look to judge whether the photographs are his own. A genuine photographer will be happy to give you references and referrals.
- It is not uncommon for a photographer to convert part of their home into a studio. Again use your own judgement and take a friend or family member along for your own safety and peace of mind – a genuine photographer will not object to this.
