Posing For Erotic Pictures

One of the greatest debates for most models will always be whether or not to pose for erotic magazines. There are some obvious issues, and one or two not-so-obvious ones. Nonetheless, with the options available thanks to the internet and that they tend to pay rather well compared to other gigs, taking your clothes off for the titillation of others is a major temptation for even experienced models.

The most obvious issue is how it effects your fanbase. Your fanbase will change in a number of ways. The first is that it usually grows, but not necessarily in ways that you would appreciate. Whereas you will keep most of your old fanbase, part of it will drop away as you are no longer what they were looking for. The growth comes from those that may have thought that you were too clean, and now that you've “dirtied” yourself, they have a new respect for you. You are also likely to lose some gigs and others simply won't hire you.

Although having a fanbase can be a good thing, as it enables you to get gigs easier once you hit a certain mass, you need to cultivate it some, and realize when you are doing things just to garner fans versus doing great work. This is not to say that erotic work is of no value, but rather that you need to debate what each shoot will do to your career. Doing a Playboy spread, for example, can be fun and allow you to make drastic changes to your career, but it also has the disadvantage of, well, making drastic changes to your career. Nonetheless, for someone who is feeling limited to, say, store ads and teen-age shoots, it can make agents stand up and take notice of how you want to change your career.

There is a certain element of danger. Posing for the wrong magazines can actually be the death-knell of your career, depending on the quality of the pictures. If the pictures were done just to be something different, then they are likely to do more damage to your career than help it. At the same time, doing more artistic nudes, even if there is an element of the erotic to them, can actually help your career;. By the same token, doing erotic pictures and having fun with the shoot can also help your career. In essence, if you can come across as sexy or artistic rather than slutty it can actually help your career, but you need to make sure that you stay on the right side of that line.

Ultimately it's your career, and you need to make decisions based on where you want your career to be. Unfortunately, if you wish to go anywhere with it, some level of nudity is virtually required in order to go anywhere, and any time that you use nudity, you evoke a number of reactions, some good, some bad. It is a line that you need to cross, at least temporarily, and sometimes crossing lines can be good thing. Too bad that you can't always go back once you've made certain decisions.
