Wedding Insurance

Wedding Insurance

So is it possible to insure your wedding photographer?

Well yes and no!

Whilst you cannot insure your wedding photographer individually you can purchase wedding insurance which covers various different categories including the wedding photography.

So what is wedding insurance and do I really need it?

For what is typically an expensive day, wedding insurance is quite a cheap purchase in comparison. Wedding insurance protects your financial investment from the early days of planning right through to the big day itself.

For example, Your wedding is planned for January which is traditionally the coldest month of the year. However this particular January is colder than ever, and the reception venue has no heating, thus making it impossible to use. Wedding insurance would allow you to postpone your wedding, and receive all the money you have paid out.

You are walking towards the church when a large lorry passes by, catches a muddy puddle and sprays your beautiful dress with muddy water. Wedding insurance would cover the entire cost of a replacement dress.

Surely the church, photographer and reception venue have their own insurance?

Of course the vendors have their own insurance, and it is a good idea to check how their insurance covers you; however their insurance won’t cover eventualities such as sickness or injury, inclement weather, damage to the dress and so on.

Photographers Insurance

It is the wedding photographer’s responsibility to make sure he or she is adequately insured to cover all eventualities outside of what your own wedding insurance policy covers.

Wedding photographer’s insurance covers equipment such as cameras, as well as personal liability should the photographer accidently turns in a hurry and hits Auntie Betty on the head with his camera! The wedding photographer will also have their business insured which will cover him or her should the photographs turn out wrong due to his mistakes.

Personal photographers insurance is fairly expensive, which is one of the reasons wedding photography is so costly.

How much does wedding insurance cost?

Wedding insurance policies start at around £20 for a basic policy and up to £200 for a fully covered policy.

So what does wedding insurance cover?

Basic wedding insurance covers a vast array of eventualities such as;

Venue – Unexpected cancellation or the building has been damaged and is not suitable for use, or even if the venue owner’s have gone out of business.

Weather – Weather conditions which prevent any essential guest from reaching the church or reception venue, the insurance would cover postponement of the wedding plus all costs incurred.

Sickness or Injury – Should an essential guest become unwell or sustain an injury insurance would cover postponement of the wedding plus all costs.

Armed Forces/work – It does happen! Members of the armed forces can be called up at any time.

No Vicar – This also can happen. The vicar doesn’t turn up or the Caterers go sick, your insurance policy would cover these circumstances.

Additional cover includes;

Photography – Should the photographer fail to turn up (unlikely if you choose a photographer from this site), lost or stolen negatives, photographs are damaged of do not develop properly.

Videographer – The video is lost or damaged, insurance covers a video montage made up from the photographs and possibly a restaged wedding ceremony which can then be filmed.

Gifts – they could become damaged or stolen. Please note that most policies only cover gifts within a certain time limit.

Attire – Should your dress become damaged, or the bridesmaids dresses are stolen your policy will cover all cots to replace.

Personal Liability – Should anyone experience an injury during your wedding day your policy would cover all medical expenses.

Honeymoon – some wedding insurance policies include travel insurance, but it is best to speak with your travel agent to ensure you are fully covered for your honeymoon.
