WHAT IS A MODEL RELEASE FORM

WHAT IS A MODEL RELEASE FORM?
A model release form can also be known as a liability waiver. It is a legal document typically signed by the model featured in the photograph, granting permission to publish the photograph in one form or another.
Depending on the terms and conditions of the form, generally the photograph is now owned by the photographer who may compensate the model in form of payment to use the photographs wherever he or she deems suitable.
Publishing an identifiable photo of a person without a model release form signed by that person can result in legal action for whoever publishes the photograph. Notice that it is the publisher who is responsible for ensuring the appropriate forms have been signed, not the photographer who will have sold the photographs to the publisher
Please note that model release forms and liability waivers are different to copyright.
